Gloves Off

Today was the day the gloves came off. I have been wearing ski gloves to protect my hands from the little weasel's, aka Shannon, nasty bites while trimming her toe nails ( see blog post Trimming Dog Nails ). But not today, my hands came through the toe nail clipping ordeal unscathed, not even a scratch. Ah, the taste of success!

It seems my chihuahua is developing quite a reputation in the neighbourhood, when people walking their dogs see her approaching they cross over to the other side of the street. Where is Cesar Millan when you need him?

Oooh, I'm So Itchy

Yesterday it was raining all day and today we were surprised to get our first snowfall of the season. It was coming down pretty thick but the snow lasted only a couple of hours on the ground before it all melted away. Yippee for me, I don't like winter and am already counting the days away to spring. I know my chihuahua is too.

Apple Loving Chihuahua

Well, summer has come to an end for the year and the days are getting cooler. Here's a photo of my chihuahua from earlier in the summer I was going to post but didn't get around to it. (in case you haven't noticed, I missed August. So much for trying to post at least once a month). Yeah, Shannon just loves those apples she finds in the backyard.

 

Heat Wave

We're in the midst of a heat wave, the other day the temperature reached 36 degrees Celsius in my backyard, and that was in the shade! But Shannon my chihuahua seems oblivious to it, she was running around chasing down apples, and this morning she was sleeping under her blanket, and we don't even have air conditioning! Must be a chihuahua thing.

Dog Days Of Summer

Finally the hot muggy weather has arrived, just the way a chihuahua likes it. Shannon spends her time relaxing on the veranda and keeping on the watch for any dogs that pass by, then she turns into a yapping machine.

Shannon In the Driver's Seat

My brother has a motorized scooter, you know, the ones that look like skateboards with long handlebars, and he got this idea that he's going to take my Chihuahua for a ride. So he went out and bought a basket for the scooter, yeah right, like I'm going to let him zoom down the street with my dog in the basket hanging on for dear life. Why is it that grown men act like little boys?? Sheesh!

 

Dogs Eating Chocolate

Most people including me know that chocolate is toxic for dogs, so you can imagine my shock when my chihuahua got a hold of a box of liquor filled chocolates. I walked into the family room and on the floor there were something like 6 chocolates with the tips bitten off and the liquor oozing out onto the carpet.

Upon closer examination I noticed she didn't eat them but just bit off the tips and left them on the floor too. I guess she didn't like the taste and went through the rest to see if they were any better. But what really has me scratching my head is how did she manage to pick them out of those little trays that chocolate bonbons are packaged in. What a little weasel! I'm sure glad she didn't eat them!

Give A Dog A Bone

Shannon chewed her nylabone so much that one end became pointy. My Mom thought it wasn't safe so she took it away from her. But no worry Shannon has a new one now, and she loves it just like her old one.

Here's a tip for you folks with new puppies, get them in the habit of chewing on their own toys, if you catch them chewing on something they shouldn't, distract them with a chew toy. Once they become adults the only thing they will chew on is their own stuff.

In The Doghouse....Or Tent

I like how my chihuahua shapes her blanket into a "tent" and then just crawls in and out of the opening. Seems like she's going to be doing a lot of that, winter just doesn't want to leave. Last week the birds began chirping and then we got hit with snow, and now it's raining. Ah but I know spring is coming, I can feel it.

 

Anticipation

Even though it's still cold and there's snow on the ground, I can feel that spring is just around the corner. There's a lot more sun and my chihuahua is sure taking advantage of that picking a sunny spot in the house to feel the warmth of a sunny day. I wonder if she can tell that warmer days are ahead? I think she can.
