So Long My Puppy

 

Little Shannon  2005 - 2022

It's with sadness that I write this post, my Chihuahua Little Shannon (aka the Weasel) passed away last week at the age of 16 years and 7 months. She was diagnosed with kidney failure around 2 1/2 years ago, then a neurological disorder that made her unsteady while walking became progressively worse. She's missed but not forgotten.

Still alive and kicking or should I say barking at 14 years of age, though she's not as enthusiastic about looking for apples in the yard as she was in her younger years. It could be because she's missing some teeth so it's not as fun biting into the apple.

At 12 years of age the little weasel (aka, my Chihuahua) is still feeling in her prime and likes feasting on Popeye's chicken and any other kind of fast food she can sink her teeth into.

What Is A Teacup Dog

"Teacup" is a term applied to dogs belonging to the toy group which are very tiny in size, even for their own breed. The word is a marketing gimmick and is not officially recognized as a breed description.

Before you decide you want to get a "teacup" Chihuahua or any other toy breed labeled as "teacup", be aware a toy dog that is undersized for its breed very often has health issues which may have an impact on how long it will live. It is also very fragile and prone to accidents, a fall from a bed or sofa, or even getting stepped on can be fatal.

Many breeders of small dogs advertise their litters as teacups because people are willing to pay more for them but no breeder can guarantee how large or small a puppy will grow. Those of you in search of a teacup would do well to keep in mind that even a toy dog that grows larger than it should be is still going to be a very small dog....and more fun to play with because you won't feel like you're walking on egg shells.

It's been a while, guess the little weasel is so boring there's not much to write about, ha, ha. But she did get a new doggy bed, and she approves.

Things aren't always as they seem, my dog really isn't friendly with squirrels, she goes nutty at the sight of one, even the word "squirrel" will set her in a frenzy. So how was this photo taken? Let's just say I got a little creative.

How Smart Are Dogs?

Well let me tell you, they are very smart. My chihuahua has a stuffed Woodstock, you know, one of the characters from the Peanuts/Charlie Brown comic strip.(see photo below)  Woody as we call it is almost as big as she so when she is holding it in her mouth she can't see what's in front of her. This caused her a bit of trouble getting it down the stairs with it. But being the resourceful little weasel that she is, she found a way. She would drop it onto the step, climb down to that step, pick it up and drop it to the next step, repeat until she got to the bottom. Is that smart or what?

By the way, the Border Collie is considered the smartest breed. Yeah right, tell that to a Chihuahua.

My Dog In A Parka Jacket

 My dog got a fleece lined parka but she didn't want to walk with it on so it went back to the store. I think the leg holes didn't fit properly and that resulted in the edges pressing against her armpits (legpits?) Oh well, at least I got a few nice snapshots. Does she look cute with the little fur edged hood or what?

Dog Shampoo For Stinky Dogs

The little weasel has an itchiness problem, the vet said it's mild allergies but didn't recommend anything for it, so at the petstore the sales clerk suggested a shampoo called Tropiclean.

 It didn't do anything for her itchy skin but it left her smelling spring fresh. Got a smelly dog? Try it out, the freshness lasts all day long.

Last Apple Of Summer

It was clear blue skies all day today, the perfect day for munching on the last apple that was left on the tree. I picked it for my Mom but she wanted poochy to have it since it's the little weasel's favorite summertime activity. Now that all the apples are gone and autumn is here, the weasel doesn't have anything to do in the yard. 

I keep forgetting to charge the batteries so I wasn't able to get a better photo.

While doing a search for Chihuahua art on Zazzle these posters caught my eye. I especially like the "Chihuahua In Manhattan" poster.

Look What I Have

My Chihuahua likes to sneak apples that she finds in the backyard and bring them into the house. Did you ever notice how selfish dogs are? When no one is around my dog drops the apple and ignores it but if she sees me approaching she quickly snatches it and holds it in her mouth. I walk away, she drops it again, I approach, she grabs it and holds it. The little weasel.

Let Me Out!

The long awaited summer is here and poochie likes spending it on the front porch, no doubt to give passing dogs an ear full, if you know what I mean.

All geared up for spring! I was goofing around in my graphics programs, the flower was made in Inkscape and I added my chihuahua's face to it in Photoshop Elements.

Peek A Boo

I probably posted similar photos before, but I think it looks so cute when she pokes her nose out from under the covers. She's keeping tabs on what's going on around her, lol.
